What Are the Highlights of the v4.x.0 NSPanel Pro?

NSPanel Pro is a smart control panel featuring a touchscreen, integrated Zigbee & Matter hub, Matter Bridge, and security functions. With version 4.x.0, it has evolved into a full-scenario smart central control system, introducing three major enhancements:

Built-in F-Droid App Library
Access and install third-party apps such as Home Assistant directly. Set any installed app as your Home App while maintaining core functions like NSPanel Pro control in the background.

Hello,

@MichaelLearnstoCode After spending quite a bit of time living with the current idea of integrating NSPanel Pro with Home Assistant, I wanted to share a few observations from both an architectural and user‑experience perspective, and explain why I eventually stepped back from it all, mostly to avoid unnecessary stress.

The current concept, based on MQTT, essentially boils down to a one‑way export of device states, without a coherent data model and without any real ability to manage Zigbee from HA. In practice, Home Assistant receives a large collection of loosely defined entities, while the user has no control over the Zigbee network — only a passive view. It looks great in marketing materials, but it doesn’t address what users actually need.

I’ve discussed these issues in several threads already, so I won’t repeat the entire analysis here — anyone interested can easily find my earlier posts using the Search function. Still, it’s worth noting that despite repeated feedback from the community, the current integration concept is being pursued with admirable persistence… even though it doesn’t really lead to a stable or complete Zigbee experience in HA.

A more promising direction

  1. Local Zigbee API Provide a local REST/WebSocket API that allows HA to communicate directly with the Zigbee layer. This doesn’t require a revolution — just separating Zigbee into a component that can be accessed locally.
  2. Consistent device model Instead of sending raw data, the panel could expose a structured device description (e.g., JSON) defining entities, capabilities, and supported commands. This would eliminate chaos and redundant entities.
  3. Bidirectional communication The integration concept should support not only receiving states but also sending commands and configuration. Without this, HA can’t act as a controller — only as a spectator.
  4. Hybrid mode: eWeLink + local API NSPanel Pro could operate simultaneously in cloud and local layers - just like Philips Hue or Aqara. Users wouldn’t have to choose between cloud convenience and local control.
  5. Open specification + simplicity for everyday users The HA community can build the integration if provided with API documentation and device models. But many users expect a true “plug and play” experience. MQTT will never deliver that - it doesn’t solve the lack of Zigbee control or the absence of a consistent device model. And let’s be honest: the average user won’t survive configuring a broker, topics, permissions, and entity mapping. It’s simply not something that can be marketed as “easy”, no matter how nicely it’s presented.

Summary

The current MQTT‑based idea is inherently limited and cannot provide full Zigbee integration with Home Assistant. If NSPanel Pro is meant to replace an external coordinator, what’s needed is an architectural solution: a local Zigbee API, a consistent device model, bidirectional communication, and a hybrid mode. This would make NSPanel Pro an open, stable, future‑proof device - beneficial both for advanced users and for those who just want things to work without a headache.

I completely agree. I wrote an mqtt client in c# last time and it was a disaster. I just don’t know if sonoff is willing to go this direction, since other manufacturers are also sticking to mgtt. They need to compete and this way they would isolate themselves

I have an NSPanel Pro and a PSPanel in each of my houses. I confess that I’m not completely satisfied, but it does solve some problems.

Thank you for your candid feedback on our NSPanel Pro. We truly value your willingness to share your experience, as it helps us better understand your needs and continuously improve our products.

We would love to know which features you use most often and what specific issues they have helped you solve. At the same time, if you’re comfortable sharing, we’d also appreciate hearing about any aspects you’re less satisfied with or any improvements you hope to see—every suggestion you offer is an important direction for our growth.

As a token of our appreciation for your honest input, users who participate in sharing feedback will have the chance to receive a special gift from us. We look forward to hearing more of your thoughts and working with you to deliver an even better experience.

As suggested, I would like to inform you that both NSPanel models should have new graphics, both in terms of appearance and color, to make them more appealing.
With NSPanel Pro, I have to reset it or turn it off and on again quite often because it loses commands or shows them as disconnected.
Regarding the NSPanel as a previous model, someone also mentioned that the two switches are smaller, as are the commands and the usage time.
Best regards

Sorry for the issue. Is your NSPanel Pro running the v4.1.5 or v4.2.2 firmware? If so, would you please submit a log on your NSPanel Pro device through Top drop-down menu -> Settings -> About -> Feedback -> Submit. The best timing is right after you notice the error.

For.me.the biggest highlight has been ro be able to use the NS Panel Pro.as a.physical Alarm.switch that can Arm.or Disarm Alarms in Home Assistant.

I wanted to use the other NS Panel Pro 120 as an alarm panel for a different floor in the house, but the NS Panel.Pro 120 does not expose its alarm features.

The need to add sensors before alarms are configured through the ewelink app discourages alarm configuration when the device is linked through Home Assistant.

The.fact that the new updates allows for.remote firmware updates is a big plus.

The next gen Ns Panel Pro should not only support Wifi, Zigbee, Matter, but should also be able to be configured to serve as a thread border router.

If Ewelink.is to.release another NS Panel Pro, it should have a much bigger diaplay

. Perhaps double the current NS panel Pro 120

The next gen 2 NS Paanel Pro should e able to function as a.speaker and.microphone.

The aspeaker/ buzzer should be so loud (at least 120DBb to serve as an.inbuilt alarm.

Michael, when you say stepped back have you left a discussion - or left the Product role ?

In any event you should take pride in what has been achieved, the usefulness of the panel has come on leaps and bounds in the last 6-9 months under your stewardship.

While you believe in an idealistic architecture approach I believe Sonoff have been true to the concept of a co-authored roadmap - responding well to feedback, both positive and negative.

A major step change might create more issues than it solves especially given the heterogenous environment you exist in.

I for one have yet to see the value in the focus on Zigbee, so prefer your development investment to go in the direction of enhancing the usefulness of NSPanel as a Portal into HA., consequently I support any effort placed on two way communication.

I beleive you should go further toward open access and especially any enhancement which allows NSPanel emulation on ios/android/ Windows, not only to allow ease of programming but also the selection of portal rather than proprietary limits as proposed with the 8” screen, and you are correct my wife may never get involved in the programming/ configuration or design of software - but she uses the Nspanel everyday because it is integrated by someone who did, and there are many about.

If you have stepped back to avoid the stress - good decision - but console yourself that the stress was caused by the problems of your success, not your failure

I have got node-red on the NS Panel Pro to run at boot (I think) and to run at the same time as the eWeLink GUI. Can’t get it to accept a token though even if I tap the name 7 times. Can access the web interface and connect to an iHost. Can get a token via curl so it works that way.

Have installed system (mainly memory) monitoring, MQTT broker (node-red-contrib-aedes on port 1888) and can connect my iHost but no the NSPP.

Hello to all

I’m using the last version available for the Sonoff NS Panel PRO EU

I’m using the Zigbee to Mqtt integration over the HA - Home Assistant and the integration and the devices are working properly

But I’m not able to update the firmware of these two devices over the ewelink APP… I Already reported over the APP.

By the way once this device have the feature to eWelink- remote Sub-devices it will be grate if I can use this devices also from this integration over the MQTT , can you please check this possiblity ?

Thank you and keep the amazing improvements

No, I am not. Where did this come from? Oh, @jam3? I think he was expressing that the achievements we have made on NSPanel Pro have not met his expectations yet. jam3 has been very kind to us and also gave us many valuable suggestions. We are working hard to make NSPanel Pro better for our dear users, and we do want to implement many suggestions from jam3. It just takes some time.

Wow, this is great.

Since you have using both NSPanel Pro and iHost, would you please tell me what kind of setup is idea for your usage scenario, and why is that preferable. Maybe we could do something together.

We’ll check that ASAP. Would you please tell me the current firmware version of your SNZB-01M and SNZB-02DR2?

You mean SNZB-01M? I think it can only work in either Zigbee mode or eWeLink-Remote mode, not simultaneously. I would suggest to use it in Zigbee mode. But if you prefer eWeLink-Remote mode, @jam3 has done wonderful research to make it work with Home Assistant, please refer to Sonoff R5 – eWeLink Remote (MQTT) — Full 6‑Button Blueprint

.you guys at Sonoff are doing a fantastic job. Because of your openness to new ideas, My operations are now predominantly Sonoff/Home Asistant. Save for the devices you do not produce such as Door Locks (Aqara), and Vibration Sensors (Thirdreality), and now I have to abandon one of my sites from using the Ihost because too many integration updates are not going through.

The NS Panel is dinalky beconing what it was supposed to be during its release.

Otherwise you are good Guys.

Great thank you for your support

Regarding the firmware versions of the devices:

SNZB-01M → I only have the msg about the update available, i’m not able to find in the menu any information about the firmware versions, sorry

SNZB-02DR2 → 1.0.2

Regarding the eWeLink-Remote the main ideia is like this new feature have the ability to expose the zigbee devices added to the NS Panel PRO EU to ver the MQTT to the HA - Home Assistant, i hope you can also made a similar feature to the devices added using the propocolo eWeLink-Remote to the HA, exposed by the MQTT.

Thank you

Assuming you have Bluetooth with BLE support, you should just install the eWeLink‑Remote Gateway add‑on and connect your eWeLink Remote remotes directly to Home Assistant. The entities will be available in MQTT. The NSPanel Pro is not needed for this.
