I will write the reasons why I will not buy it and will not mount it. Unless these reasons are removed.
1, The matter bridge between iHost and NSPP does not work. So it is unusable for mounting in my area.
2, Obviously there will be the same firmware as I have now in NSPP.
3, It does not support local scenes and the ability to create them like in iHost.
Hi,@Jojkoba,thank you for your feedback.
The NSPanel Pro Gen2 is an upgraded version of the original NSPanel Pro, with improvements in both hardware and underlying firmware — it is not identical to the current NSPP.
The initial release of Gen2 will support local addition of Zigbee sub-devices, and local scene functionality will be gradually supported as well — it won’t be too far away.
I admit that this is great news. But understand my situation, that I connect devices from you in the villages. And there is not a stable internet there, even though the situation is starting to change. For me, it is absolutely necessary that the devices run full locally.
Approximate date when local functionality will be available?
Cannot understand if those are physical switches in the middle of the display or just onscreen buttons. 86 is already damn small. Halven that already tiny display is a bad idea to me. I think you shoud have considered keeping the 86 mount format and just “add” on the boottom of it two physical switches, resulting the shape looking like a US NsPanel non-pro. A 86x86 that becomes a 86x116 expanding on the bottom.
we all have seen that nspanelpro’s 2gb of ram needed 2+ years of hard optimisation to run decently. In 2026 i won’t buy anything below 4Gb. I already made a big mistake buying ihost 4gb : my fault, i didnt’ check it was 32bit. I wish there was a law to BAN 32bit and 2Gb of ram from new products, worldwide.
You’re right, but that doesn’t change the fact that it doesn’t make sense (to me) to buy a product that is already under average standard requirements right now… nspanelPro we own took 2 years to become acceptably less slow and lagging.
BIG NO for me, but wish Sonoff luck with this new version
I had the fw version 3.x.x I agree that it was a disaster. Now it is finally usable, but I understand Sonoff and your opinion.
I try my best to support my family and one of my projects is a bee scale. Since I sell it, I always have to deal with production and selling price. Sonoff also has this problem, when the profit is small, it is not worth it and when the price is high, the device does not sell.
From another point of view, I understand you that you want the latest and greatest in this, we are the same.
I communicate with this great team that can accept my criticism and good comments. I will not discuss the communication, everything we write remains between us, but when we finish the projects, it will be a great benefit for the community.
iHost is a 32-bit system, I knew that from the beginning. However, I have customers who either have bad internet or are paranoid, so I have to do it locally. There are only two options for the customer, iHost or CubeOS. I don’t provide HA because it’s just a nuisance when the customer gets into it. They just mess up the HA and then think it’s under warranty.
Personally, I think they have moved forward and we have something to look forward to this year.
Yes it will be and it is being worked on. Personally I think iHost2 will not be available due to the crazy prices for chips and memory. It would be unsellable.
32-bit is enough if you take the product as it is and don’t plan to expand its capabilities much in the future. Sonoff became popular especially among tech enthusiasts because it allowed power users to flash custom firmware — from Tasmota to ESPHome — sometimes directly via DIY mode without even opening the case.
A basic user probably doesn’t even know what Docker is. Yet Sonoff still included Docker on the iHost, and they even gave users the possibility to flash the internal eMMC and support the ihost-openSource project. This clearly appeals to power users and lets them do almost anything with the device they bought. In my opinion, this is a 100% winning strategy (except for the fact that 32-bit is pretty much dead and buried now… my bad, I was so excited about the product that I bought it without checking its architecture LOL).
When you talk about customers, I totally agree: Sonoff products are much easier to set up and sell.
However, Home Assistant can be fine-tuned to allow or restrict almost anything for the end user. That just requires waaaay more skill from the seller/installer and could significantly increase the final price for the customer.
I have optics at home but I still want iHost/CubeOS because I can’t find simplicity and diversity anywhere else. In addition, I like local CAST, which currently has no substitute or competition. I moved everything to CAST, and my wife praises CAST and she has problems with everything.
When NSPP v2 supports local devices with scenes, I will take the iHost scenes out of service.
My question is regarding Home Assistant. If I buy the Gen. 2, do I still need some form of additional equipment to run Home Assistant, or will it simply run it independently? Clearly after I install the Home Assistant software.
