Your Smart Control Panel Finally has Relays! SONOFF NSPanel Pro Gen2 is Here!

Hi @Milk the method described by you is already the method i use to connect my nspanel pro 120 and nspanel pro gen2 to Home Assistant, via MQTT. But this relies on wifi and local network connection. I would prefer , like i described in my last post that at least the physical light/power switch entities from the NSPanel Gen2 to be accesible via zigbee. So i can add the nspanel pro gen2 to Zigbee2Mqtt and use my Zigbee network not my wifi router network. Thanks. Hope this is clear.

Not quite. You see, the NSPanel Pro Gen2 simply doesn’t expose its physical relays as Zigbee endpoints. Not because Zigbee2MQTT is missing a feature, not because Sonoff is hiding a secret menu, but because the panel itself is a Zigbee coordinator, not a Zigbee device. Coordinators don’t join other networks - they are the network.

So even if you really, really want those relays to show up in Zigbee2MQTT, the hardware and firmware just aren’t built for it. The relays live entirely on the panel’s Android system and communicate over Wi‑Fi/LAN. Zigbee is only there to manage other devices, not to expose the panel’s own switches.

In short:
NSPanel Pro Gen2 → Wi‑Fi/LAN device
Zigbee2MQTT → expects Zigbee end‑devices
Your relays → not Zigbee end‑devices
Result → no amount of wishing will make the panel join your Zigbee mesh.

If you want Zigbee‑controlled relays, the only realistic option is adding a separate Zigbee relay module and letting the NSPanel act purely as a pretty front‑end. Not as magical Zigbee hardware it was never designed to be. Unless I’m wrong, I am right about it

Unless your Wi-Fi or wired network is poor, I see no point in the request, since HA handles everything anyway; Wi-Fi can sometimes even be faster than Zigbee because local connections are direct!

And that’s the only solution for what you want—because, personally, I think it’s a waste of money to pay twice just to use Zigbee!

The panel has been working perfectly since I got it; I can automate everything on it via SmartThings, and I can also use it with the test HA setup I have here without any issues. Automations triggered by the buttons never fail—everything is 100% solid.

Does this apply even when the NSPPGen2 works as a router?

Just because it becomes a router doesn’t mean it carries over its panel capabilities to Zigbee mode!

All that happens is that it stops being a controller and becomes strictly a routing agent—with no function other than helping to improve the mesh network!

If you want to use its features, you’ll have to use Wi-Fi and connect to MQTT for use with Home Assistant.

Interesting I also have the NSPP120 that connects with Zigbee through HA as a router. That one is connected in both Ewelink Smart Home, Zigbee MQTT, Sonoff Integration and ZHA.

I’ll look into it. At first glance, it may be possible, and @jam3 make a good point. I’ll spend some time researching whether there is a practical way to implement this feature and will keep you updated if I find a solution.

I have the NS Panel Pro Gen2 but it has constant zigbee drop offs. I have many Hue light bulbs connected directly via zigbee but the NSP is randomly losing connections, so my lights Appear offline. After rebooting the panel it works but after some time devices are showing offline and can not be Controlled

This will of course work, although not necessarily in the way one might imagine. In my view, using the NSPanel Pro (both generations) like this is not a great idea. I’ve tried it, and I know from experience that it usually performs poorly.

I don’t have any issues with my first- and second-generation panels being controlled by Home Assistant.

However, they don’t have the Home Assistant app or anything like that installed; they turn lights and air conditioners on and off normally, but nothing too advanced—most of them are basically just expensive Zigbee repeaters, haha.

Still, I use them to control all the lights and such that are connected to a Sonoff hub!

Right!

For anyone using Home Assistant dashboards, I have full support for previous Sonoff panels in my ha-paneld Android app (I personally have 10+ Gen1 panels for testing) and I am keen to add support for the new Gen2.

Anyone who gets early allocation of one of the new panels could usefully add to the community project by posting a /diag report so I can identify how the new Gen2 hardware is configured.

I love the existing products and have worked hard to address the perceived performance problems that some people experience using them with Home Assistant. ha-paneld is a community open source project but if anyone from eWe-link/Sonoff wants to reach out for official support then I would love to hear from them.

If Gen1 needed ha‑paneld, it’s only because Sonoff shipped Android at the level of a phone built in a backyard workshop from AliExpress parts. You can tune it, but you’re still rescuing bargain‑bin hardware, not turning it into anything premium.

Gen2 is definitely a step forward - stronger SoC, more RAM, faster storage - but without a change in approach, it’s not going to blow anyone’s ass off. It’s just a faster engine strapped onto the same fundamentally limited design.

The architecture hasn’t changed: Android → WebView → app → Home Assistant. Multiple intermediary layers that inherently introduce lag, instability, and nondeterministic behavior. Gen2 hides the pain with powerful hardware, but the pain is still there.

That’s why we don’t need another workaround - we need a real integration. A panel that talks to Home Assistant natively, without Android acting as a middleman. Everything else is just polishing the same old pipeline.

And to be clear, the hardware progress in Gen2 is impressive. The engineering effort shows, and the result is genuinely solid. But without a shift in software philosophy, NSPanel Pro Gen2 will never become a true Home Assistant panel.

The opportunity is huge: nobody on the market offers a ready‑made, fully local HA‑native panel. Sonoff/eWeLink could own that space. The only real obstacle is getting the blessing of the Nabu Casa team and navigating the legal/organizational side of such cooperation.

Full local control is already delayed. An update promising full local mode was supposed to be released twice already, but nothing came of it. It seems it will never happen, even though they said it would. While NSPP is usable, the problem remains: if the internet or the eWeLink Cloud goes down, it becomes nothing more than an expensive wall ornament.

Hi @Jojkoba

Regarding the local scene creation feature on the NSPanel Pro web interface—we previously shared some initial timing expectations. However, after further evaluation, we adjusted the approach to better ensure stability and expandability (allowing for broader Zigbee device compatibility down the line), so the release will be a bit later than originally planned.

In the meantime, if you need to create and use local scenes, you can set them up via the eWeLink App—simply select Zigbee sub‑devices under the same gateway (including the gateway itself) as triggers and actions.

The scenes created via the App and those you’ll eventually configure through the web interface offer the same local execution capability—both ensure your scenes run locally even when the network is unstable.

Work is ongoing, and we’ll share updates here as soon as we have solid progress. Thanks for your understanding.

I understand your situation. I’ll wait, but I’ll have to look for an alternative way to chat since there’s no internet.

I can’t figure out who to get to this screen. This is how it looks like after Sync: no switch/relays

Thanks!

I’m sorry, but I’m not quite sure where this screenshot was taken from. Could you please describe in a bit more detail what exactly you’re trying to achieve or what functionality you would like to have?

Sorry for posting so badly. I tried to make it reply to your post July 13th with the screenshot attached.
My pic originates from url http://XX.XX.XX.XX:8123/app/81bc2df9_ewelink_smart_home_for_homeassistant_slug
where I got with Settings – Apps – eWeLink Smart Home – Start User Interface
I was expecting something like the ability to click on the device and then get to the view you were showing. Here more context:

I now managed to get to the relays with connecting via Matter which will do for me.
But what is the best way to go?

I have my NSPanel Pro Gen2 connected to home assistant via MQTT. all exposed entities are working great, and i have full control of the device in home assistant.
