I believe you were talking about Home Assistant integration through MQTT Discovery protocol, right? Which requires you specify information for MQTT Broker through eWeLink App -> NSPanel Pro -> Device Settings -> Home Assistant -> Sync Zigbee Sub-devices to Home Assistant.
Thatâs a shame! I get that R5 and SâMate donât sell as well as Zigbee devices, but that doesnât mean the product line has no value. eWeLinkâRemote fills a completely different niche - ultraâlowâlatency local control without needing a Zigbee coordinator. Many users rely on it specifically because it solves problems Zigbee canât.
Thread can do direct binding, but itâs still a full network stack - heavier, slower and far more powerâhungry. eWeLink Remote is a tiny BLE trigger with instant response and multiâyear battery life. Completely different class of device.
So I hope SONOFF reconsiders. Even a small update or a nextâgen version would keep the ecosystem alive and give existing users a clear upgrade path.
I would say 95% experiments. I have it in my workshop so can turn on some stuff with it like my bench power supply or soldering iron, which appear on host anyway, but it means it is right next to where I do soldering. I would be fine with installing dockers as I have some experience with running portainer on Home assistant already. I donât think it was the usual Portainer there: I canât remember where I got it. GitHub somewhere. I would however like to know how to add the NSPP server to Node Red on the NSPP as it is pretty much the last thing I have to do in order to write my guide in how to set this up.
My experience with panels and Sonof panels (NS86pro and both NS Panels). I also own 2 panels of another vendor. When I compare these 2 brands, it is clear to me that Sonoff takes a step further and delivers more value for money. When I look online in several communities, it all comes down to a high performing panel (like the NS86pro) and a tablet size 10+ inch panel. Powered by a wall socket. What really everyone asks for and looks is a good native performing Home Assistant integration including video. I do understand dat Sonoff makes lots of devices, however this can make a difference as using the 4.2/4.3x beta it is not stable enough. The 4.xx beta crashes inside the companion app, yes not a fault of Sonoff maybe, but why does it work on an android tablet?
My experience is that it is still buggy, better than the other panels I own, (XL and the normal sized shelly). I think Sonoff should consider a native panel 100% pure focussed on home assistant with extra cpu and memory power behind it. All my sonoff devices are in Home assistant, so why try to bridge them when you can run native Home Assistant?
Thank you sonoff for adding more functionality, but consider a panel without a huge OS with all whistles and bells but a pure web or native app for Home Assistant. And yes I agree with the previous posts that MQTT fails and many of the same issues I experience.
Thank you so much for sharing such a detailed and insightful review! Weâre thrilled to hear the NSPanel Pro is serving as your go-to smart home control center, and that local control & Zigbee integration are working so smoothly for your household.
Regarding your feature requests:
Conditional Scenes Based on Sensor Values â This functionality is already supported in the eWeLink app. You can set a scene with a time window and configure it to trigger other devices when a sensor meets specific conditions during that period. Please give it a try, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Free Drag-and-Drop Button Layout â We need to evaluate whether this would be a practical experience on the smaller screen, so weâll take this into consideration for future updates.
Custom Icon Upload & Expanded Grouping â Weâve added the ability to upload custom icons to our upcoming feature roadmap. However, weâd appreciate a concrete example of what you mean by âexpanded grouping for large installationsâ to ensure we fully understand your needs.
Energy Dashboard â Currently, the panel only displays the top 5 devices by power consumption. Are you looking to view the energy usage of all your devices directly on the screen?
We look forward to your reply!
Weâre glad youâre enjoying the device, and we canât wait to keep refining the experience based on input from users like you!
You could add an âenergyâ node to your eWeLink Cube Node Red palette. This could allow devices with power measurement (such as the path series) or switches with presumptive power outputs (for example I have basics connected to panel heaters of an advertised wattage). Then as Node Red allows a display you could log into whatever device was running it and view it.
Then the small Screen of the NSPP, limiting it to 5 devices, would be irrelevant as itâd be displayed elsewhere.
Would you like me to summarise how installed node Red? Most of the effort has been about starting scripts so it works on reboot (that Iâm thinking of removing anyway) and writing a non-expert understandable text. I could tell you in a few seconds. Just help me connect to an NSPP locally so I can finish my guide and I can easily then help with the docker stuff.
I truly love how easy it is to setup Home Assistant (companion app) in version 4 without rooting it. The integration gets better and better. I now have a NSPanel Pro 120 in every room. Iâm using the panel as a zigbee router.
