Why SONOFF products seems be stuck in beta version?

I’m an early supporter of SONOFF products, I’ve changed and bought new products from year.

Now I’ve 30/40 sonoff products installed, TVRs, iHost, TX Ultimate and so on. But now I’m becoming upset because all of those seems stuck in a beta version state. A lot of feature are missing making the ecosystem unstable or, sometimes, unuseful.

Why not finalizing products before presenting new ones?

Some examples:

  • iHost Matter bridge pretty unusable with HomeKit. It connects for a couple of hours than every device became offline.
  • TX Ultimate support from iHost is partial: no ambient light or swipe support in scenes
  • Snzb-02D is not supported by eWelink smart home iHost add-on (fixed pairing to Zigbee Bridge Pro instead of iHost)
  • TVRs temp sensors are not accepted as temp feed by NSPanel or NSPanel PRO
  • Snzb-02D is not supported as temp feed in NSPanel PRO neither. What device does it support?! Ok, NSPanel PRO seems to only support devices connected to ewelink and not in a local environment (connected to iHost).
  • NSPanel PRO 120 seems not to be supported natively from ewelink app: it shows up as a “stretched up” version of the NSPanel PRO 86. Bigger size is not really used as extra space making it unuseful…
  • NSPanel PRO 120 has a pretty beautiful default theme but changing the Home Screen with a custom layout make every other page uglier than the default theme. So, cool feature, but is better to stay with the default theme… this is really incomprehensible.

I think I can go forward for hours. So the main question is, why?

Matter itself still needs more work to improve, not just from eWeLink/SONOFF but also from Alliance behind Matter and other platforms like Apple.

And it was supposed to be beautiful and better for everyone. Meanwhile, Zigbee, despite its fragmentation, is still a better solution.

Indeed.

But it would depend on personal needs. I think Matter still stands out for its local cross-platform experience. For large-scale usage with a budget, Zigbee’s a solid option.

I bought a google hub for matter, the sonoff bridge U for matter, and home assistant sees matter. I still have to have my sonoff bridge pro for some zigbee things that will not pair with the ultra?! What does it do? What was it for? Like working a crossword puzzle. Keeps you busy, but why am I doing this? And yes, things still drop off occasionally. I’m ok with it though. Waiting on that firmware upgrade that makes it all worth while. waiting.

What devices do you have that only pair with Pro?

Hi Ward. On the Pro, I still have 3 ewelink /sonoff? lights that won’t connect to the Ultra. 2 zigbee switches for my goldfish pond and a zigbee water valve. These are a little older and the newer stuff, ligjhts, water valve does connect to ultra!, but no updated home assistant “drivers” in the sonoff integration. They’re working on it.

I think SONOFF only has Wi-Fi lights, which won’t need a Zigbee gateway
