Subject: Critical System Failure after Updates: TRVZB (v1.4.1) + ZBBridge-U (v1.16.0) - External Sensors (SNZB-02D) Continuously Disconnecting

Hello everyone and the SONOFF support team,

I am experiencing a critical system failure after performing two firmware updates, and I urgently need help diagnosing the root cause.

System Configuration:

  • Gateway: SONOFF ZBBridge-U (recently updated to v.1.16.0 )
  • Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV): Sonoff TRVZB (recently updated to v.1.4.1 )
  • Temperature/Humidity Sensors: Sonoff SNZB-02D (v.2.3.0)

Problem Description:
My system had been running rock-solid for almost two years. However, immediately after the recent updates (both ZBBridge-U and TRVZB), the external SNZB-02D sensors started to disconnect from their paired TRVZB units continuously.

  • The disconnection cycle happens roughly every two hours . Each TRV then falls back to its internal temperature sensor.
  • The connection sometimes restores on its own after ~30 minutes, but often requires manual re-pairing .
  • I have already tried replacing an SNZB-02D with an SNZB-02P – the problem persists.
  • I also attempted to change the sensor reporting interval from 1 hour to 30 seconds – no improvement .

Key Observations & Confusion:

  1. Inconsistent Behavior: I have four TRVZB units. The sensors disconnect from three of them , but remain stable on the fourth – which ironically has the weakest Zigbee signal of all.
  2. UI Inconsistency: Even though all TRVZB units report firmware v1.4.1 , only two of them received the new visual interface skins. The other two still have the old UI.
  3. Uncertain Root Cause: It is now unclear whether the issue is triggered by the TRVZB v1.4.1 update , the ZBBridge-U v1.16.0 update , or a harmful interaction between both .

My Request:
I considered Sonoff equipment to be highly reliable and have stuck with the native ZBBridge-U ecosystem even after setting up Home Assistant. Now the core function of my heating system is broken.

  • Is this a known issue with either of these firmware versions?
  • Are there any official workarounds , diagnostic steps, or a recommended firmware rollback procedure?
  • Has anyone in the community encountered and solved a similar problem?

Any guidance from the support team or experienced users would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

With the ZBBridge-U v1.16.1 update (available on request, see the dedicated thread for the ZBbridge Ultra) the problem of disconnecting the external sensors is solved. Everything else is still the same as you wrote

Hello Irnz25,

Thank you for sharing this crucial information about the ZBBridge-U v1.16.1 update. This gives hope for resolving a critical issue with my heating system.

Could you please clarify a few details to help me and possibly other users get this fix?

  1. Source of the update: You mentioned it is available “on request”. Could you specify whom to contact for this (e.g., official support ticket, a specific employee on the forum, a beta program) and, if possible, provide a link to the dedicated thread you referred to?
  2. Update process: How was the update file provided and installed? Was it an OTA update pushed by support or a manual file to flash?

I have been searching for a solution for a long time and have only found promises from Sonoff without a clear path to the fix. Your guidance would be invaluable.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

We have identified and confirmed the issue of external sensor disconnection. Some users have reported that this problem has been resolved in version 1.16.1 , but this version is not yet available to all users.

If convenient, you can provide us with the ZBBridge‑U device ID, and we will push version 1.16.1 to you individually to help resolve the problem as soon as possible.
In addition, we plan to release version 1.17.0 o all users by tomorrow, which will also fix this issue. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Hello, Jemma!

Thank you very much for your prompt response and detailed explanation. It’s great to see that support doesn’t leave users in difficult situations and is actively working on solutions.

Please find my ZBBridge-U device ID for the individual update below: 1002278408

I would be very grateful if you could push version 1.16.1 as soon as possible.

P.S. If I understand your reply correctly, the issue was specifically on the ZBBridge-U v1.16.0 gateway side, and we should not “blame” the TRVZB v1.4.1 update? This is an important point for understanding to avoid similar conflicts in the future.

Thank you in advance for your help and clarification!

Hello,

We’ve already pushed version 1.16.1 to your ZBBridge‑U. Please check for the update and proceed with the upgrade. After completing the upgrade, if the issue still persists, kindly let us know here in the community so we can continue to follow up.

Just to clarify — your understanding is absolutely correct . This issue is indeed caused by the ZBBridge‑U v1.16.0 gateway side, and it has nothing to do with the TRVZB 1.4.1 version.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Hello Jemma,

Thank you so much! I have successfully received and installed the version 1.16.1 update . Everything went smoothly.

I will monitor the situation and will definitely write back here tomorrow with the results.

Hello, Jemma. It’s been 18 hours since I installed version 1.16.1 for my ZBBridge‑U—no disconnections at all. I can hardly believe my luck! Thank you so much for your help and for how quickly you provided it!

One issue remains with the interface skins (themes). Could you please clarify: are the skins loaded with the TRVZB update or the ZBBridge‑U update? Although, this is more of an aesthetic concern at this point—it’s tolerable, the most important thing is that the house is warm.

Potete gentilmente inviare anche a me aggiornamento del bridge ultra 10023b3eef

If needed, it is possible. However, version 1.17.0 will be released later today, and it already contains the fix for the issue of the external temperature source disconnection.

Ok grazie allora aspetto aggiornamento in giornata

Colgo occasione per aver aperto un ticket che non riesco ad entrare nel White list per il plan floor se gentilmente lei riesce a risolvere il problema le lascio il mio account

This is being handled by another team, and I will help inform them. @Yanci

I need some time to verify it before getting back to you

Grazie mille perché non o più ricevuto aggiornamenti sulle mia richiesta di aiuto

Version 1.17.0 has been released. Please check it out.

Appena controllato ancora nessun aggiornamento

Jemma, tell me honestly :slightly_smiling_face:, does it make any sense at all for me to update from version 1.16.1 to 1.17.0? I’m a bit apprehensive since everything just started working. What are the fundamental differences between them? If it’s not too much trouble, could you please explain?
