Since the launch of CUBE OS , we’ve been excited to see so many of you running it on your Pi, NAS, or virtual machines. It’s so simple that we hope more people can try it out and enjoy setting up their own self-hosted smart home - local, safe, and fully under their control.
And here’s where you come in
Help us spread the word! We’re kicking off a community event:
How to join:
Share your CUBE OS setup, experience, or use case anywhere you like (on your own account/channel) - Facebook, Reddit, TikTok, other smart home forums or groups… (text, photo, or video, all welcome!)

We’ve prepared 15 SONOFF Zigbee Dongles (across different models) for winners
is there a reason there is not a docker version of Cube? Although I have experimented with VM versions they are not on all the time, so I’ve just ended up on an iHost. I think being able to create virtual devices in Node Red means you can add Long Range sensors such as;
We’re indeed considering a Docker image installation option for CUBE OS, but it may still take some time before it’s ready.
By the way, which VM setup are you currently using? Would you mind sharing your configuration? (Just make sure you’re booting with UEFI mode . That’s important for CUBE OS to start properly.)
About the LoRa part: It looks like you might be using a SenseCAP S2120, right? Which LNS brand are you using? Integrating LoRa into CUBE OS sounds great! Can you share more about your use case~
A docker image would be very useful. Although not fully open source I don’t think the Linux version has any proprietary in it and my guess is that the same will be true of future OS, such as OpenHarmony/Harmony. a Full VM needs significant resources. For example, I can run android on my linux phone but its very slow.
Have played around with several VM, including an old Linux Mint Laptop (was once Apple) and a Microsoft Windows desktop. Neither two are left on all the time and the laptop only has 2 cores so giving 1 to CUBE makes it unusable. Had no problem using them just nothing I leave on all the time can run a VM.
That is an indeed a SenseCap S2120. It’s connected to an Sensecap M2 Multiplatform in local mode using Chirpstack V3, so that the encryption and de-encryption all happen locally and it automatically sends MQTT messages. Just read them on an iHost running Node Red and send the payload to virtual devices after conversion to the right units. Actually relatively easy because the capabilities existed already, or near enough. “Fan Speed” instead of “wind speed” is a bit odd, but near enough. Will be connecting a radiation meter to LoRa. That I may have to use an odd capability but at least with custom icons I can make a radioactivity sign.
