One of the limitations I found with the Sonoff Zigbee Bridge Pro is that the SNZB-02D humidity and temperature sensor does not have LAN mode, that is, it sends the data to the cloud and through the integration in the cloud, I access the data (sensor > zigbee bridge Pro > cloud sonoff > ha). But if I don’t have internet, I can no longer access the sensor data locally…
By installing the ZigBee 3.0 Dongle Plus USB Adapter - Sonoff ZBDongle-E, I can now have the data in Home Assistant directly and even when I don’t have internet (sensor > usb dongle > ha).
Now the following question arises: is there a way to pass the sensor data to eWeLink? is it working? That is: sensor > usb ZBDongle-E > ha > cloud sonoff > eWeLink?
As a general rule, no Zigbee device can operate in LAN mode. In LAN mode, a bridge can operate, except that no Sonoff-originated bridge (including NSPanel Pro or ZBBRIDGE-U) exposes connected Zigbee devices locally on WiFi. For example, in NSPanel Pro without an eWeLink cloud connection you can control a paired Zigbee switch using a tile on one of the panel screens but forget about relying control in LAN mode. You can’t and that’s that.
Support for the SNZB-02D in HA does not specifically require a Sonoff dongle. Any Zigbee dongle that works with ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT will do.
As for transferring sensor data from HA to the eWeLink cloud, there is no easy way to do this. In theory you could use the paid Home Assistant cloud but there is no integration needed. Read more here.
You can also consider using CAST App V2.1.3 (install and run it with an idle Android phone), as the Matter Hub of the eWeLink ecosystem, and then use eWeLink App to scan the code to add the Matter Bridge which in the HA, to get the temperature and humidity sensor (Matter Bridge sub-device) in the HA .
Thanks for the idea. I prefer simple solutions and none of the possible ones are such. This is a subject that has been on the agenda in various forms for many months. Nothing relevant is happening.
Perhaps it’s time for ITEAD, eWeLink, or Sonoff to take an interest in Works With Home Assistant?
