NSPanel Pro V4.0.12 impossible to complete update

Hi,

I recently checked if there is an update for NSPanel Pro.
The latest version is 4.0.12
I tried to install it but got an error message saying there is no space available.
When I checked I found that I would need to delete some update .zip files of old versions: 4.0.0, 4.0.7, 4.0.10 etc.
When I tried to delete any file I was asked for my password!
What password is this?
What files can be deleted?
How can I fix the problem?

Thank you.

Same issue for me how can I solve this.

Hi, sorry for the issue. There is a bug in previous and current v4.0.x firmware which doesn’t delete used OTA files. So after several update, these unnecessary OTA files have occupied a large amount of storage space.

You can follow the steps below to clear these OTA files. As a side effect, you will need to reconfigure your NSPanel Pro after that.

Note: Reconfigure only involves Language Setting, Country Setting, Custom Wallpaper, Custom Ringtone. Zigbee network, Wi-Fi etc., remain intact.

  1. Install Fossify File Manager through F-Droid (Top drop-down menu -> F-Droid -> Latest -> Search "Fossify File")
  2. Open Fossify File Manager and press bottom tab Storage. You can see how much storage space is left. It should be 1.8GB at least in normal operations.
  3. Press the number of the free storage, scroll to Other apps and press it. You can see the list of installed apps and the storage space they occupy. NSPanelPro App should take no more than 500 MB. In your case, NSPanelPro App is possibly occupying more than 1 GB storage space.
  4. Press the name of NSPanelPro App, and then press CLEAR DATA button to recycle storage space. You will notice the AssistiveTouch button on the top left side is gone, because NSPanelPro App is stopped in order to clear its user data.
  5. You need to power off NSPanel Pro device in order to reboot into Home screen again.

Please let me know if above method solves your issue.

PS: As a last resort, you can always do a Factory Reset. The cost is a bit high. You will need to do all the configurations again, including re-pairing Zigbee devices.

Hi, for those who aren’t already in this situation, are you planning an automatic solution? For example, a new version that deletes old firmware files? Thanks.

Hi, the v4.1.0 release will include the bugfix for this issue.
