iHost backup function

Hey,

Thx for the message.

It is hard to implement such a feature, and we are still doing technical research and verification on this.

I would like to explain a little why it took so long as there are lots of things we need to concern about in this feature, for instance:

Rolling back system dependency could break the system, we can verify it before releasing, but what if users restore backup by skipping multiple versions?

A complete snapshot would be ideal to avoid this but it requires more dev work to add such a tool on the system level and also to secure a plan to store a large image file, it’s installed on a bare machine not as easy as a VM.

And not to mention data protection during the backup and restore process.

We are still exploring and trying to find a good solution for backups, but for now, it’s not ready.

This is true but creating a new entry with this topic will not solve the issue. I think everything has already been said and eWeLink’s position has been clearly articulated. It is now recalled and summarised by @ward, so you know the problem from the other side.
I think the issue of backup was overlooked during the creation of the CUBE and/or was skipped for some reason. Of course I agree that backup is essential, especially when the iHost configuration reaches more than a basic level of complexity. I used iHost for several months and never experienced any problems with the TF card. That doesn’t change the fact that, among other things, the lack of backup contributed to my decision to abandon iHost.

First, you need to make it possible to save and restore basic settings such as scenes. After removing the device, the scene should not be deleted. Only be inactive. After making a new pairing, you need to create the entire automation from scratch.

Having many scenes based on one sensor requires a lot of time to rebuild them.

Thx for the feedback.

Partial backup (application level) is also in consideration.

It could be good. The most important thing is that you can save scenes. With automation backups, you can quickly restore the basic function of ihost.

Thanks for the update,
keep working hard.
Someday finally Backup and Restore bring to us a nice surprise.

The dudes at eWeLink do nothing else. They work hard every day. At weekends they go out for a beer to let off some steam

Hi I can’t restore ihost from local backup, because when i try to do that on mobile phone browser and want to choose backup it’s open camera app, but not file browser. I never use interface on pc, but when i open ihost.local on desktop browser it’s get error and say it’s not secure. Thanks

use firefox browser on your phone.
You need to enable functions in your browser (computer version).

Remember! to perform ihost restore.
Ihost must have enternet cable connected.
