eWeLink CUBE V2.10.2 Standalone Image Update Issue - Pi5 SSD

I recently switched all my devices from eWelink iHost to eWelink standalone. I’ve been running on V2.9.0 on a Raspberry Pi5 8Gb with an SSD. No SD card.

I tried to upgrade to V2.10.2 today but the upgrade failed. I got various partition errors on the raspberry pi console. I thought I’d bricked the system but when I rebooted the Pi, the system reverted to V2.9.0 . I thought I’d tested an upgrade on the SSD but I may not have. This may be the first time I’ve tried to upgrade CubeOS running with the SSD.

@KwayLi99 , should an upgrade work with an SSD install?

I am currently confirming this issue with the product team.

Bonjour

Bon courage

@KwayLi99 , any update on this ? I might try the backup workaround if this can’t be fixed soon.

I haven’t heard back from the team yet. they’re still looking into it. I’ll let you know as I get an update.

Sounds good! If you run into any issues, feel free to reach out anytime.

@Trice , My backup from V2.9.0 failed to restore to V2.10.2 (On a new SSD). It got stuck at about 30% and failed. Did you restore to V2.10.2 on SSD or SD Micro ??

I took a new backup and managed to get it to restore after 3-4 attempts. It would be great if this could be fixed before the next release.

Our team already identified and fixed this issue, OTA upgrades on SSD installs will be resolved in the next version release.

Thanks @KwayLi99 . Cube on a Pi 5 8Gb with an SSD is very responsive compared to the original IHost so I’d like to keep that configuration if I can.

@KwayLi99 , The update from V2.10.2 to V2.10.3 failed. Same issue as the last update. It doesn’t look like the fix has worked.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. To help us accurately identify the cause, could you please describe the specific issue in detail? Thank you for your cooperation!

Raspberry Pi 5, 8Gb with SSD, no Micro SD card. Press Install Now, Then Upgrade. The Upgrade indicator spins forever. The screenshot above shows the output on the console.

Hello,Thank you for providing the detailed information. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this update issue.

Regarding your case, when the system is installed on an SSD, CUBE OS version 2.10.2 does not yet support OTA updates. SSD OTA update support has been added in version 2.10.3. However, to upgrade from your current version, you will need to manually flash the system once.

To help you restore the system and complete the upgrade, we recommend performing a clean flash using the full CUBE OS 2.10.3 image for Raspberry Pi 5. You can download the official CUBE OS image here:

Recommended flashing tool:
Balena Etcher: balenaEtcher - Flash OS images to SD cards & USB drives

You can follow these steps:

  • Connect the SSD to your computer using a USB adapter.

  • Open Balena Etcher.

  • Select the downloaded CUBE OS 2.10.3 image file.

  • Select your SSD as the target device.

  • Start flashing and wait until the process is completed.

  • After flashing, install the SSD back into the Raspberry Pi 5 and start the system.

Important note: A clean flash will erase all data on the SSD. If you have important scenes, device configurations, or other data in your current system, please make sure to export a backup first through the Backup & Restore feature in iHost before flashing.
