Since the beginning of the year, the developers of the eWelink team have done a lot under the hood in terms of improving the eWelink application in terms of support for existing and new devices, Matter, Apple Home, Sonos, CarPlay, Android Auto, etc.
However, I personally think that there is no improvement of functionality in terms of the user environment, based on what I propose:
Allow the user to define the type of device depending on the use. For example I have a Sonoff ZBMini2 switch that I use to turn a light on/off and I would like to show such a device as a light and not a switch.
This will enrich the eWeLink Web, so that in the header of the Chip cards, where the number of switched-on light bulbs is displayed, I can see the actual total number of lights.
Within the application, allow the number of switched on lighting to be displayed.
Add a weather report
Add location inclusion in scenes
Whether to do it in the Insight card window, which can be turned into the main Dashboard, or in the Show curent home section as a Chip card, but I leave it up to the developers.
Perhaps, if the main Dashboard solution were to be used, consider the possibility of users adding shortcuts to device favorites.
We have offered plenty of icons for customized switches. If it affects how you make voice commands via third-party platforms, you can try changing the type there. For instance, apple should be able to change switches/outlets to lights.
For #2
eWeLink has built chips to group up lights/switches on eWeLink WEB. For app, there’s a section on the insight tab for this.
For #3 and #4
These features cost lots of developing resources and API spending and the performance may not meet our standard. The app is heavy with so many features in it, so if you keep it running in the background for location recording, the battery could be drained fast and heat up.
A leave/arrive home scene + widget on the Home screen is more practical
For #1
Yes, I agree that you have provided plenty of icons for custom switches, but that only gives the user a visual appearance and no additional functionality.
For #2
eWeLink has made chips for grouping lights/switches on eWeLink WEB, but it does not provide the required functionality.
When I say that, I mean the following on the “chip”, i.e. the Smart Lights section, they only show me devices that are “bulbs” according to their purpose, and not all devices that I use as lighting, so I still think that the user should be given the opportunity to define their own purpose device type.
For #3 and #4
The development and life cycle of each application constantly requires optimization and investment in its development. Developers should have the last word on the optimization and development technique itself, and I will not discuss that.
The eWeLink development team in previous years, I did not notice for the year 2024, to provide users with a roadmap for the development of the eWeLink application, I hope they will do the same for the year 2025.
REMARK:
“The app is heavy with so many features in it, so if you keep it running in the background to record your location, it could drain the battery quickly and heat up.” following this logic, it follows that users cannot expect anything more from the application in the future!?!?
I think that’s why eWelink’s team of capable experts is there to overcome current problems and ensure optimal and functional operation of the application.
Thanks for your understanding!
A lot of our users still use old Android phones - very old ones - and it doesn’t mean we won’t add such features but keep optimizing the app performance step by step. You may notice that the recent version has a faster loading speed on the device list, which was part of the job.
