Hey there! I’d really appreciate it if you could add a feature that makes the device reset itself (timed)after going offline so it can get back online again. Thanks!
It’s a complex issue.
Built-in timers can work without a network connection. Timed/scheduled smart scenes are more reliant on the cloud or mixed with local devices.
Can you tell us more about your use case and needs?
Hi!
In some cases after a power outage, some devices stay offline, meaning they lose their internet connection. So I have to reset them to get them back online.
To reset them, I have to unplug them, and it’s a hassle. That’s why I think the device should have an option to automatically reset itself after being offline for a certain amount of time to get back online.
What devices do you have.
What devices are you having trouble with.
Do you have a fixed IP for your WiFi devices?
I have a lot of WiFi and zigbee devices.
I have no problem with them.
I have more than 50 different devices. All of them regularly go online without any intervention after power down or after router down and up again. Some of the devices are hidden and manual reset is not an option.
Hi!
I only use the ‘Sonoff’ brand, mostly the mini type and smart plugs. They all run on a WiFi network with fixed IP addresses. I’ve already tried using dynamic IPs. However, occasionally some of them (mini)go offline after a power outage.
Hi!
My devices usually work fine, but sometimes they go offline after a power outage. I’ve already changed the router, the WiFi signal is strong enough, and I’ve tried both fixed and dynamic IPs. And as you know, it’s always the most important or hardest-to-reach device that goes offline!"
You mean reboot through a power cycle, right? Cuz factory reset will erase all info, including Wi-Fi credentials
Yes, I mean reboot through a power cycle.
I disconnect the device from the power supply and then reconnect it to the power supply. After that the device operates normally.
I would like the device to turn itself off for a few moments and then turn back on, but only when it has been offline for more than an hour, for example.
That’s kinda hard, to be honest, and it’s not something we can do from the eWeLink side.
It’s a firmware logic and how devices handle connection loss, which is developed by the vendors. In some cases, the device may fall into bad logic and crash, unable to reboot by itself.
A power outage would be also challenging for AP and routers; lots of Wi-Fi devices are trying to connect at the same time while it’s still initializing. Generally, the powering cycle of your devices equals a power outage; I would suspect that there’s something wrong with the router.
If it happens a lot the issue can be restored by certain steps. I would recommend you contact support for troubleshooting with the log submitted from the app.
Got it, I really appreciate your time and effort. Also, congrats on the eWeLink app—it’s super easy to use and very intuitive."
