I have a question that I have been wondering about for quite some time.
I use a SONOFF NSPanel Pro as the main control panel for my smart home system. Over time, I have added many devices, sensors, cameras, rooms, scenes and automation routines, and I have also extensively customized the panel itself.
Let’s say, hopefully never , that my current NSPanel Pro fails completely and I purchase a new NSPanel Pro / NSPanel Pro 120.
If I sign in to the new panel using my existing eWeLink account, how much of my current configuration will be restored automatically?
In particular, I would like to know about:
Devices, rooms and scenes/automations
Camera configurations
NSPanel Pro dashboard and home screen layout
Other personal panel settings
Which of these are stored in the eWeLink account/cloud and automatically restored, and which would I need to configure again manually?
Also, if the old panel becomes completely unusable and I have not made a backup beforehand, is there any way to restore or transfer its configuration to the new panel?
My system is continuously growing, so knowing whether I would have to rebuild everything from scratch after a possible panel replacement is quite important to me.
As far as I understand, signing in to a new NSPanel Pro with the same eWeLink account will restore the cloud-side configuration (devices, rooms, scenes, etc.), but it should not be treated as a complete backup of the old panel. The biggest issue is Zigbee. The Zigbee network is tied to the NSPanel Pro acting as coordinator, and there is currently no general backup/restore mechanism for migrating that network to another panel. This has also been confirmed recently by eWeLink staff on their forum. As far as I know, Zigbee network backup was still being planned/developed.
I also wouldn’t expect the complete dashboard layout, camera setup and all panel-specific settings to be automatically cloned. So if the old panel dies without a backup, you should assume that some configuration will have to be recreated manually, especially the Zigbee part.
In short: eWeLink account sync ≠ full NSPanel Pro backup. A proper export/restore function for the entire panel would definitely be useful.
Thank you for the information you provided. I actually think there should be a proper backup/restore solution for this, because even if there were only 20 devices configured in a home, having to recreate all the devices and their automation scenarios could become quite a time-consuming process.
I’m not sure whether you are an official eWeLink representative, but perhaps we should also wait for an up-to-date response from someone from the official team. They may have a different approach or perhaps this is something that is being addressed in an upcoming update.
