Sonoff Zigbee smart plugs UK availability

Why have sonoff zigbee smart plugs not been available in the UK for so long. I ordered some from alliexpress some months ago but they were even hard to source. They are no longer available to ship to the UK any more.
There are many other zigbee smart plugs on the market such as Tuya. But no real guarantee they will work with ewelink. Why should I take a chance.
My whole system is based on ewelink. I want them to work with my sonoff zigbee pro hubs. The lack of sonoff zigbee smart plugs for so long is odd. Also why after all this time have sonoff not produced the smaller neater version of the zigbee smart plug such as for example Tuya and many others?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Or failing that, has anybody out there found a none Sonoff zigbee UK type smart plug that functions fully with ewelink and the latest Sonoff zigbee bridge pro.

Big and small politics. Trade wars. Manufacturer’s decisions. Market absorption capacity. No presence in the EU. Who can know…

Alternatively you can buy Type E / F and an adapter for Type G.

In reality, it would be two adapters. Not very practical :man_shrugging:
The truth is perhaps that Sonoff equipment does not meet British Standards requirements. Among the published safety certificates, I do not see any issued in Europe. All available are issued by Shenzhen BCTC Testing Co., Ltd. Whether the CE marking has anything to do with the EU safety certificate is unknown in this situation. Because CE could just as well mean “China Export”. However, it is reassuring to know that the BCTC Testing runs strictly in accordance with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 quality management system. The other thing is that the British are completely nuts about their regulations.

Who knows, maybe…

Thanks for the reply, UK Type G were available direct from ITEAD last year. I purchased four. They were properly CE approved. If they were not, then they went to a lot of trouble faking the documentation on the web site and the printed documentation with the unit. The none zigbee S60TPG wifi version smart plug is still available on UK amazon. That is CE approved. The Sonoff zigbee smart plug however also acts as a mesh unit re routing other sonoff zigbee device signals back to the hub, that is why I am keen to get some more.

Virtually any non-battery powered device acts as a router. There are some exceptions, such as the Sonoff ZBMINI-L2. So you can use any Zigbee that is recognised by eWeLink. They could be IKEA light bulbs. As long as you don’t turn them off with a regular switch, of course. Small and discreet are the Sonoff ZBMICRO adaptors. I have one and it works very well. It has several other advantages, by the way.

Yep thanks for the feedback, I was aware of those, but probably one of the few sonoff devices I have not tried. I have a system with around 40plus Sonoff devices. I am pretty familiar with the ewelink system.
For the house wifi I run a mesh system here ( the BT 6 disc version) due to the coverage distance required. It is really good. In total the BT mesh system has to handle about 80 IP address (loads of blink cameras) and does it well. The original sonoff wifi door window type switches would take it in turns every so often to drop out. They did not like the BT mesh system. Hence I replaced the wifi switches with the zigbee door switches and they have been bullet proof. The whole system is presently really reIiable. I want to extend the zigbee part of the system now. The zigbee smart switches are more practical for re routing zigbee signals simply because you can move them around easily to see what postion works best and I have far more reasons to switch 240 VAC than USB. I was also going to add my mothers place to my ewelink system so I could monitor it when she is not there. Its a cottage with 1M thick walls. I would have prefered zigbee smart switches there also. I think for there I go with the Tuya app and devices.

Because it doesn’t work as expected…
