We have discovered that an eWeLink supported wi-fi Temperature Humidity Switch known as NEW SMART poses a risk of electric shock. The particular model which has a 3.5mm TRS socket (stereo type jack) for connecting external Temperature/ Humidity sensors has the sleeve of the jack socket (nominated as ground for sensors) connected to the ‘L INPUT’ terminal via approx 6K5 of resistance. The temperature sensor probe usually supplied with this product is fitted with a 3.5mm TRS jack plug that has a fully insulated casing however the use of any jack plug or extension cable that has a metal body will pose a risk to electric shock.
There is a similar looking type of switch but fitted with a 3 pin in line XH Male connector instead of a 3.5mm TRS jack socket. This version does not suffer from the same problem, but its ‘N IN’ terminal is directly connected to the Ground (Centre) pin of the XH Connector. For Countries that have their mains Neutral conductor associated with Ground (such as UK) it means that should the Temperature/ Humidity sensor ground come into contact with the protective ground then there would be an earth leakage fault condition which will cause an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (if fitted) to switch off the mains suppy.
