We’re continuing to expand Matter Bridge support on ZBBridge-U. With Beta firmware v3.7.0, five more Zigbee device types can now be bridged to Matter-enabled platforms via Matter Bridge:
- Siren
- Flow Sensor
- Rain Sensor
- Soil Sensor
- Air Purifier
Zigbee2MQTT already supports the device types above.
If your Zigbee device falls into one of these categories and is supported by Zigbee2MQTT, you can now bridge it to Matter-enabled platforms, such as Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa.
Check the ZBBridge-U Device Compatibility List to see the latest supported devices and capability mappings.
Let’s take a closer look at how device capabilities are currently mapped to Matter and what’s coming next.
1. How Are Device Capabilities Mapped to Matter?
What you see in Matter depends on both the capabilities supported by your Zigbee device and how ZBBridge-U currently maps those capabilities to Matter.
ZBBridge-U identifies the capabilities supported by your Zigbee device and maps them to the Matter capabilities available through Matter Bridge.
Take a Zigbee Rain Sensor as an example.
Some Zigbee Rain Sensors, such as HOBEIAN ZG-223Z and Tuya RB-SRAIN01, may support multiple capabilities, including Rain Detection, Illuminance, and other device-specific capabilities.
Currently, the Rain Detection capability can appear on the Matter platform and be used in automations, while other capabilities such as Illuminance may not yet appear separately.
This means a single physical device with multiple capabilities cannot always be represented as multiple Matter devices yet.
2. What’s Coming Next?
In the next version, we’re planning to improve how devices with multiple capabilities are bridged to Matter.
Multiple capabilities from a single physical device will be represented as separate devices on the Matter platform.
For example, the same Zigbee Rain Sensor could appear as:
a Rain Sensor
a Light Sensor
Each device can then be named separately, assigned to a different room, and used independently in Matter automations.
3. We’d Love to Hear From You
Which Zigbee device or device type would you like to see added next?
If you have a device that isn’t fully supported yet, let us know in the comments.
