E-ink dashboard to stand or hang

For a long time I have been looking for a device that would be something like the SNZB-02D on steroids. A device with an e-Paper display to view sensor data and other relevant information as required and its location (e.g. near the front door). One that only gives concise information (no interaction, as that’s what NSPanel Pro is for), shows the weather forecast and time. Or the one that shows CAST screens as well. Preferably Zigbee and/or Matter.

Unfortunately, no manufacturer has anything like this on offer. There are, of course, various projects of varying degrees of sophistication (based on ESP modules) to make your own device. Hence the idea for eWeLink to join forces with Sonoff and create such a ready-to-use gadget. I believe it will easily find many admirers.

It’s a cool idea; I’ve seen many DIY projects about this. Not sure if SONOFF would be interested but let’s ping them @Daniel_Zhan

Personally, I have an IKEA display hacked with esp32 and plan to integrate it into eWeLink and other platforms via Matter or webhook; Im still learning embedded coding but it’s much harder than other languages I learned.

For now I automate it using 06p and ZBMini on iHost.

Another thought would be an improved/customizable CAST screensaver. So you can put cheap tablets like Samsung A9 (100eru, I suppose?) into a frame.

Interesting. Which one? I do not find anything like this available from IKEA.

Also, this one can be hacked; I have one but have yet to tear it up

FREKVENS has been discontinued in Europe. It’s still available in the USA and Hong Kong + Makau, but interestingly not in mainland China.

I got a FREKVENS Matrix Lamp from HK, and there’s also a twin spotlight. Both are on sale recently.

Maybe you can have better luck on eBay?

It’s possible but projects based on ESP + e-ink screens run on accus. If you set refreshing reasonable enough, they run for weeks without the need of charging. It means that you may place them almost anywhere

Yeah, that’s the grace. However, it would be hard to achieve with Wi-Fi and ESP32, which consumes lots of power.

But since I already have 06p around, which requires wires, it won’t hurt to add one more. The secret is to try not to stare at the power cable :see_no_evil:

I’d rather go into this project. The only problem is that I am a little short of time. And that is why I would prefer a ready-made one.
I once set about using a hacked Tradfri GU10 electronics as a driver for a small lamp and the initial enthusiasm soon wore off. The finale came after almost six months later
