I’m considering subscribing mainly because of the virtual switches, but there are a few things I’m not fully clear about yet.
Is it really true that I can create only up to 5 virtual devices, or is that limit flexible in any way?
What exactly does “cross-platform” mean in this context? Do the virtual switches appear in Apple HomeKit as well, or are they limited to the eWeLink app only?
Assume Local is limited eventually but you can far more than 5. Think the Cloud Based is limited part of the advanced plan. I don’t know the current number but there are two levels of subscription. I can’t remember the name of the newer one and if it changes this number at all.
For the number of virtual devices:
With the Advanced Plan, you can create up to 5 Virtual Devices. Toward the end of last year, we introduced the Prime Plan for users who need more capacity and advanced features — that plan allows up to 10 Virtual Devices.
Virtual devices are just one part of Prime though. If you’re curious about the full list of benefits, you can check it here:: vip.ewelink.cc
About “cross-platform”:
You can create Virtual Switches and Virtual Buttons- act as bridge to control devices through Alexa/Google/SmartThings/IFTTT that normally wouldn’t work together.
For example, you can create a Virtual Switch called “Good Morning Mode” in the eWeLink and sync it with Alexa. Then, when you say, “Alexa, good morning,” it will trigger your predefined eWeLink scene — performing actions like turning on lights or opening curtains. Even if some devices don’t directly support Alexa, you can still enjoy seamless and flexible automation across different ecosystems with this virtual device feature.
As for HomeKit, virtual devices aren’t supported there yet. It’s something we’re looking into for future updates.
