I have bought a Mini R4 and a MINIR4M to test at home, and i’m trying to decide best where to put them, behind the ceiling rose of behind the first switch in a 2 or 3 switch chain
This is the wiring diagram they provide.
This is my proposed wiring
This is how I plan to use them, or situations like this. So the locactions for the sonoff switch could be at A (in the 1st switch box) or B (behind the ceiling rose), in both cases wiring cable C into S1/S2 on the Sonoff. I’d much rather locate the Sonoff at point A, just for ease of access.
Instead of cable C being a 2-core+E I could make it a 3-core+E and take a neutral to the switch box, which the Sonoff switch needs.
So my first question is, do I need another core taking the N back from the Sonoff to the rose (cable D in the top diagram) or can I skip this and connect the lights to the group neutral, which will arrive behind the rose (point F on the top diagram) so it would looke like this:
can the light be connected to the mains neutral direct, or does it have to be connected to the sonoff switch N terminal. another way to look at this: are the two N terminals on the Sonoff switch permanently connected together (hard-wired inside the switch, whatever the state of the switch)? If so, then the lights can be connected to the mains neutral as in the last diagram above.
