SONOFF POW Ring Smart Power Meter

Hi all, so I purchased this SONOFF POW Ring Smart Power Meter thinking I can monitor my entire house power consumption. But how do you hook one of these up? Here is good us and a we have 2 100v cables and one nutreal coming into the house, so I would put that split ring over one of the 110v cables and thats it? I assume I would have to get another unit to put over the other 110v cable?

Plese let me know thank you.

It is not possible to measure more than one circuit with the Sonoff POWCT, as it only has one clamp. It’s a shame you didn’t ask before buying. What is the second 110/120V circuit used for? If it’s a US type installation, you’re dealing with a single-phase or split-phase system. In either case, using a second POWCT won’t do anything, as a different method of measurement is required in this scenario.
In a US-style single-phase system, there are two hot wires (each with 120 volts to earth) and a neutral wire. There is 240V between the hot wires to power larger appliances such as electric dryers or ovens. For smaller appliances, 120V is used, using one hot wire and a neutral wire. The single-phase or two-phase power system is mainly used in North America, including the US and Canada. This system is also used in some Central American countries such as Mexico and the Caribbean. In other regions, South American countries also have similar systems. In Brazil, for example, both 127 V and 220 V are used, depending on the region.
In most other parts of the world, such as Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa, the three-phase system with a phase voltage of 230V is commonly used. There, three-phase measuring systems with three clamps and firmware capable of measuring consumption in three-phase systems are used.

Hi Jam3

This is in USA and as you explained there are two hot wires coming in the house. So currently I have the split ring hooked over the circuit that power my fridge as I suspect its the applience that is using the most electricity.
So having two of these POW Ring clamps one on each of the two hot wires comig into the breaker panel will not each measure the total current being used inside the house?

If this will not work, what do you recomend? I suspect the power company is over charging me and this is the reason why I’m trying to measure total consumption after the electrical meter.

Thanks for you time.

I don’t know. I possess no practical knowledge of systems other than three-phase. Furthermore, the accuracy of the measurement undoubtedly depends on the utilization of phase-to-phase voltage in the installation in question. So if you have appliances supplied from two phases, your idea is bound to result in erroneous readings. The total consumption reading from both meters will not correspond to the actual one.
I am unfamiliar with the specifics of your installation, so I can’t say anything smart. I recommend consulting an electrician, discuss and obtain an appropriate solution.
