Curb your enthusiasm 🙂
Having NSPanel Pro Gen2 connected via MQTT is nice, but it doesn’t really change the device’s capabilities.
MQTT exposes what the firmware already provides - nothing more, nothing less.
Full control would require the panel to act as a native HA input device with local UI and event handling, which NSPanel Pro simply doesn’t offer.

Running the HA Android app on NSPanel Pro is basically the same as running it on any Android tablet. It doesn’t give you control over the NSPanel hardware - it only displays your HA dashboards. That’s all.

Since NSPP won’t have local scenes anytime soon, I don’t see a real reason to buy any panel.

Been trying to get good performance with this but the Gen2 is still much slower at rendering the Home Assistant dashboards than even my old Amazon Echo Show 5 gen1 with 1GB RAM. I also notice that some dashboards don’t fully render in the home assistant app, assuming this is a quirk of the display driver, or perhaps lack of hardware acceleration?

LineageOS support would be great for these devices as well - [Devices | LineageOS Wiki](https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/) this is an Open Source Android distribution which supports all manner of phones, tablets, single-board-computers, smart displays and so on. Unfortunately Rockchip devices are currently absent but it would be nice to know that these devices will be able to get updates in future.

Hi, thanks for the detailed feedback.

Regarding the Home Assistant dashboard rendering performance, you mentioned that Gen2 is noticeably slower than your Echo Show 5 Gen1. Gen2 also runs several other functions in the background, such as acting as a Zigbee Bridge and Matter Bridge/Hub, so these background services may also have some impact on overall performance.

If possible, could you let me know which dashboards or cards are more likely to reproduce the issue? A short video would also be very helpful, along with some basic information about the dashboard configuration, such as the number of entities, number of cards, whether you are using custom cards or animations, and whether there are any high-resolution backgrounds. We can then take a closer look at the performance on the Gen2 side.

I also understand your suggestion regarding LineageOS. I’ll first share this feedback with our technical team and see what they think, and I’ll keep you updated if there is any progress.

I am using light entity cards, it’s quite a basic dashboard - maybe 10-20 entity cards per page. Each entity card is either a simple on/off switch or dimmer switch for the light.

I am not attempting to use camera videos on the dashboard, that works for only more powerful Android devices and requires a lot of system memory to load I think.

I’m not using the matter bridge or ZigBee but I do have MQTT connected to Home Assistant so I can turn the screen on/off remotely.

Have also noticed that setting the Home Assistant app as launcher (instead of nspanel launcher) will prevent the HA app from loading correctly, it hangs.

Would prefer to be able to disable ZigBee and Matter service if these occupy RAM, I only need basic MQTT status and screen control.

This looks simillar to my issue , but in my case, on NSPanel PRO 120, after about 2 days of running Home Assistant app with a simple dashboard, the NSPanel background services are fronzen (not responding), while the Home Assistant app still works , but all NSPanel functions like proximity sensor, and other background apps are stucked. When i press the accesibillity button to exit home assistant and to go back to nspanel native dashbord, it partially reboot itself and reloads the nspanel dashboard and services. See my video here: [NSPanel Pro frv.: 4.5.0 feedback - #25 by Derex](https://forum.ewelink.cc/t/nspanel-pro-frv-4-5-0-feedback/208385/25)

@Milk gave me a 4.8.1 firmware to try , but the issue has not been fixed, it’s the same.

Just to mention, I am also running same Home Assistnant dashboard on the NSPanel PRO Gen2, without absolutely any issue. It runs quite very good on the new panel.

Here another report illustrates the limitations of using NSPanel Pro as a dedicated Home Assistant dashboard. The HA app itself continues to work, while the NSPanel’s own background services reportedly freeze after about two days. The proximity sensor and other native functions stop responding. According to the report, pressing the accessibility button to exit Home Assistant causes the NSPanel to partially reboot, after which its native dashboard and background services are reloaded. The issue was reportedly also observed with firmware 4.8.1.

The F-Droid approach, with services running on the NSPanel and the HA Companion App layered on top, also feels more like a workaround than a proper solution.

This makes me think that **two firmware variants** would be a much more interesting direction. There is probably little point in changing the hardware - it is already capable enough. The real issue is the software architecture.

One firmware could remain focused on the **eWeLink ecosystem** , while the other could provide **native Home Assistant integration** , without the chain of workarounds involving MQTT, Matter bridging, F-Droid and the HA Companion App.

That would make NSPanel Pro a proper Home Assistant device, rather than trying to turn an eWeLink device into something it was not originally designed to be.

Dear Sonoff/eWeLink guys, think about it this way: if making NSPanel Pro work reliably with Home Assistant keeps causing problems across firmware versions, maybe the better solution is not another workaround, but a dedicated “NSPanel HA edition”. Keep NSPanel Pro for eWeLink, and build the HA version properly from the ground up.

Agreed. The way we need the nspanel launcher running for MQTT to function and clashes when changing default launcher are a bit annoying. I like the MQTT control but this could be done via [GitHub - RushB-fr/freekiosk: FreeKiosk - Open-Source Android Kiosk Mode & Tablet Lockdown App for Digital Signage, Dashboards, POS & Single-Purpose Devices. Free Alternative to Fully Kiosk · GitHub](https://github.com/rushb-fr/freekiosk) or similar.

Many of us using Home Assistant already have extensive ZigBee and Matter setups running before buying the nspanel so we are not interested in attaching ZigBee or Matter via nspanel - already have 60+ ZigBee devices which are attached with one of the Sonoff USB ZigBee radios to a raspberry pi.

Performance of the UI is most important for a control panel and it feels like a firmware version which prioritises UI performance for HA dashboards would find an audience. I already own 20+ Sonoff products, but I don’t think that integrating all my Sonoff ZigBee devices via this touchscreen controller makes sense.

I like using F-Droid for HA app updates but would like to clear out the background processes for ZigBee and Matter etc and get the UI performance up to the standard of other Android tablets.

Exactly. I think this is the key point. For users who already have their Zigbee/Matter infrastructure and simply want a good wall-mounted Home Assistant panel, all the Zigbee, Matter and eWeLink background services are not an advantage - they can become unnecessary overhead and a source of conflicts.

A dedicated **NSPanel HA firmware** could keep the same hardware but strip it down to what is actually needed for this use case: a responsive, stable Android/HA UI, with no dependency on the NSPanel launcher just to keep MQTT working and without unnecessary background services competing for resources.

That would also give Sonoff a much cleaner product proposition: **NSPanel Pro for eWeLink, NSPanel HA for Home Assistant.** I think there is a real market for that.

Hi, based on our analysis of the previous logs, Home Assistant was using a relatively large amount of memory. As a result, the system terminated the NSPanel Pro app running in the background, which caused the proximity wake function to stop working and also led to the device restarting.

Could you please share the specific entities you have in Home Assistant, along with some of your automation configurations? We’d like to try reproducing the setup on our side and run some tests.

I don’t want to publish my home assistant system in full here but I have many lights using WLED as well as traditional room lights. In total I have maybe 50 entity cards on a dashboard. The automations should not be a factor in app memory usage.

On my phone I see Home Assistant consumes around 350MB RAM when using this dashboard.

Last 4.9 update now causes home assistant app to close when the device is not in use, requiring app to be reloaded before using it.

Firmware has received colour icons but lost ability to be used for automation dashboards.

Can we get a response about the ram usage and what looks like the introduction of background process killing?
